With Conference right around the corner, it is important to remember the work every delegate has put in during the weeks leading up to this moment. The 2026 Pre-Leg Conference was where delegates first met their officers, revised their bills, and experienced the true spirit of Youth and Government.

Pre-Leg is, in my humble opinion, one of the most important events in the YAG season. Organized with the goal of helping delegates revise bills, meet their fellow committee members, and kick starting the excitement for what is to come, Pre Leg was the place where returning delegates get to look around and see familiar faces and where new delegates get their first taste of what they can look forward to in their YAG careers. It’s my hope that every new delegate walked away knowing there was at least one new friend to count on seeing again.

In addition to being the first taste of YAG this year, delegates were given the opportunity to put their voices out into the conference and vote in the primaries of the 2027 Gubernatorial Election, in which the Governor for the 2027 conference is elected. Before Pre-Leg, there were five candidates for election: Rithika Panchumarthy, Joanna Lee, Jack Gerecitano, Antonio Zambito, and Jack Forman.

Each candidate, alongside their Lieutenant Governor, got the opportunity to spread their campaigns by visiting each committee and even more opportunity to show off their preparation through the Gubernatorial Debate, in which every governor candidate answered questions prepared by the Press Corps.

In the end, only three candidates out of the five would be moving on to the next round. At the end of Pre-Leg, delegates voted in favor of these candidates and their Lt. Governors moving on: Antonio Zambito and Shreya Goda, Jack Gerecitano and Samvi Raj, Rithika Panchumarthy and Adi Kasam. Congratulations to all candidates, everyone put so much work and effort into planning their campaigns, and good luck to the candidates continuing on in the election.

This year’s Pre-Leg sessions was one of the best yet, with more delegations joining in, participation was one of the best in the past few years. Hopefully, the preparation done in the past few weeks has left everyone prepared for the upcoming conference weekend. With the memories set in stone from Pre-Leg, Delegates, you better believe that when walking into committee rooms, you can rest assured that someone will remember you.
