The Legislative Branch of YAG is where delegates act as lawmakers. Delegates identify real-world issues, write bills, debate them, and defend their ideas using formal parliamentary procedure. All bills are first debated in committee, with select bills advancing to the Assembly and/or Senate chambers for further debate before a larger audience. Bills that pass both chambers are then sent to the Cabinet and Governors for further consideration before being passed or vetoed. Through researching, writing, and debating mock legislation, delegates gain an understanding of how the New Jersey Legislature works and build awareness on real-world issues.
